What does Mat Pilates involve @ Touchpoint?

Mat Pilates is a series of exercises from within the Pilates Method designed specifically to be performed on a mat, rather than on a Reformer. This means you don’t need expensive equipment to perform mat Pilates – you just need a mat, your body, and a desire to improve yourself in body and mind.

Even without the fancy equipment, mat Pilates successfully challenges diverse muscle groups in a variety of ways. Using only your own body weight or additional weights to provide further resistance, every class will be a full body workout and muscle groups will be targeted to fatigue.

As with yoga, previous success with the Pilates system has ensured the team at Touch Point have made Mat Pilates one of our key focuses. Our philosophy at Touch Point is to guide and encourage clients to seek motivation from within themselves to unlock their own potential. Although it can be extremely difficult to perfect a class or flow, the small and enriching gains and achievements made through hard work and dedication are the true successes in Pilates.

Numbers are restricted to 4 at a time to ensure plenty of hands on attention from the instructor. The trainer, where necessary, will give cues for correct form and provide extra motivation and instruction.

About the Trainer

Owen Coupe, owner at Touch Point Massage, has been teaching both dynamic reformer Pilates and Mat Pilates in Melbourne for over six years now. He holds a current Certificate IV in group Pilates instruction through ‘Breathe’ Pilates, and holds a current certificate IV of Exercise Instruction / Personal Training through MMIT college.
